"The effect of a development or building on the amount of natural light presently enjoyed by a neighbouring property, resulting in a shadow being cast over that neighbouring property."
What did Blaby District Council planning department write in their report to the DCC (Development Control Committee) and the residents about overshadowing and loss of light on the homes on Sycamore Street?
Even though there is over shadowing on a grand scale - The planning department of Blaby DC appear to have not even considered the effect this building would have with regards to over shadowing.

Picture shows the height of the sun after it passes this overshadowing building
The shadow is cast all the way across the Sycamore Street............ casting a shadow over this building. Photo: May 23rd 2007. The effect is worse for the earlier months of the year.
The high roofs of the new flats block the sunlight on the homes opposite.
The roofline of Orchard Mews causes severe overshadowing all year round.
The overshadowing stops to the right of this home because the Blaby flats causing the overshadowing are only 2 storeys at this end.
This photo illustrates that the overshadowing is caused by both the roofline and the gable end.

What did Blaby District Council planning department tell the Development Control Committee (DCC) ?
December 2003 - "It is considered that the proposal would make a positive contribution to the character and appearance of the setting of Blaby Conservation Area..."
December is the worst month for overshadowing, closely followed by January. December 1pm - Looking East
The building is so tall, it blocks the light, so puddles don't dry up as quick as they used to.
A video clip to show a walk along Sycamore Street on a sunny day, turned dark and cold by such a tall building.
Notice the sunlight on the buildings and pavement, suddenly stops opposite this new building, then the sunlight starts again after you pass this tall building.
Video clip to show the homes in the conservation area being overshadowed by this new building in Blaby.
Notice how all the buildings on Sycamore Street are warmed by the sun except any building directly opposite this new building.
