What did Blaby District Council planning department tell the DCC (Development Control Committee) and the residents ?
"...there would be no overlooking of private garden areas."
Imagine your once private garden being overlooked by 3 storeys.
What did Blaby District Council planning department tell the DCC and the residents about overlooking and privacy into private homes on Sycamore Street
The Blaby District Council Planning Dept. could have written...
Having regard to the proximity of the proposed four storey development and balconies to the western boundary of the site, it is considered that the proposed development would seriously injure the residential amenity of the existing dwellings housed to the west, in the conservation area, by reason of overshadowing and overlooking and would therefore be contrary to the proper planning and development of the area.
It is considered that by reason of its design, the proposed 2, 3 and 4 storey building would be out of character with the pattern of development in this street and would injure the visual amenities of the area and would therefore be contrary to the proper planning and development of the area.

Unfortunately, for reasons still unknown to us, they chose not to. The former Blaby Garage had no windows above the ground floor (1st storey) so none of the homes on Sycamore Street were looked into let alone looked down into.
These pictures were taking from the east side of Sycamore Street. The building that Blaby District Council approved stands, less than the general guidance distance of 21 metres, away from our windows.
The new build includes full length glass doors on the ground floor, 1st floor and 2nd floor. Balconies with balustrades are on the 2nd and 3rd storeys. Opening windows are on the 4th storey.
Imagine looking out of your bedroom window and seeing this picture above. This balcony is just (approximately) 17 metres away from bedroom windows on Sycamore Street. This balcony is on the 1st floor (2nd storey), there's another 2 storeys above this that look down into property on Sycamore Street.
This building is so tall it can be seen, looking east, all the way from Northfield Park.
